Splice teams have been working alongside the Foster Group to complete the earthworks portion at Union Square – the latest office and retail development in Hamilton, which is strategically located at the south-end of the CBD.
“This is a significant project,” says Splice Construction Technician Ben Rush. “But we are making good progress. Our work to date includes the removal of 7,000m³ of material, as well as carrying out subgrade improvements. Part of our job is creating a base for the foundations.”
With Union Square located on an area where one of the earliest homesteads in Hamilton City was located, the site has provided some significant challenges and a few obstacles to progress.
“We’ve had to remove areas of contaminated soil, whilst also completing works alongside archaeologist” explains Ben.
“There has been some great work done on this sight by the Splice team, and we are all really proud to be part of this landmark project; a world-class development in the middle of our city.”
Once completed, Union Square will offer over 23,000m² of office space, spread over 5 buildings. There will also be a mix of retail, cafes and restaurants on site.
