The Cambridge section of the Waikato Expressway is 16km of 4-lane greenfield road construction, with barriers on both edges and the median.

Splice Construction was contracted to construct all the barriers, which included 48km of wire rope and 6km of guardrail. The majority of this was completed in the last 4 months of the project, with Splice achieving handover and opening by Christmas 2015.

In addition to the barrier work, Splice also installed 18km of ATMS ducts across the site, 5km of timber antiglare walls and constructed the major MSE embankment walls for the Victoria Road bridge.
